| Abstract | ||
| : In the present study was investigated the biochemical and histopathological changes in some organs of laboratory mice when injected by two doses of Dimethoate, an organophosphorus insecticide. male mice were divided into three groups of 8 animals per groups, and the same for females, the first group was given normal saline and used as a control group, The second and third groups were intraperitoneally injected 6 and 12 mg/kg of body weight Dimethoate respectively for thirty days. The results showed significant increases (p<0.05) in liver enzymes (AST, ALT and ALP), furthermore, urea and creatinine were increased in mice treated with dimethoate when compared with the control group. Histological examination of liver and kidney sections showed histopathological alternations were dependent on the dose. Histopathological findings of liver included degeneration and necrosis of some liver cells, blood congestion and explansions in the portal vein, central vein and hepatic sunsoids, as well as, the presence of hemorrhage in the portal area, infiltration of inflammatory cells in scattered area of it. In the kidney, histopathological changes showed degeneration of some tubular epithelium, while other cells where observed necrotic, sloughing and metaplasia of some tubular lining cells, as well as, congestion, hemorrhage, infiltration of inflammatory cells in the glumeruli. The results of histopatholpgical changes that observed in liver and kidney indicate that dimethoate may cause renal failure and this was confirmed by biochemical results. | ||
