This study tackles modernism and postmodernism in Graphic Design as a new form. The controversy with modernism formed the bases of technical and cultural development that ruled European countries that led, in turn, to the development of a completely different design compared to the traditional design. As we al know, what is now considered modern will soon become traditional in itself and so on thus we introduced the concept of postmodernism. Post - Modernism means the visual culture through which the concentration is focused on visual and technical communications in modern time and fulfilling the psychological needs of individuals. The concept of (modernism and post modernism in graphic design) is a new topic that hasn't been ventured yet by other scholars. The study consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, the researcher stated the importance and the problem of the study. Chapter two concentrated on the theoretical aspect that is subdivided into three sections. Section one tackles the concept of modernism and post – modernism and its application in arts, section two included modernism and post – modernism and its application in graphic design while section three tackled the applications of this study. The third chapter of the study included the results that the researcher came up with. This chapter also provides a comparison between two ages, modernism and post – modernism in the light of the findings of this study. This comparison and results fulfilled the aims of the study to mention few: 1. Due to modernism artists broke the artistic rules and limitations by using a new language of design to achieve benefits to the society and its individuals. 2. During modernism age the function of the graphic design matched its expression while in the post – modernism age the design was encoded and in many causes the function was opposite to the design thus becoming more symbolic. 3. New styles and means were used during the modernism age like mixing pictures with drawings and relationships to achieve design unity. In post – modernism age used technical criteria, the development of communications as well as many other new technologies in design. Finally the researcher came up with the recommendations and suggestions of the study | ||
