This study was conducted to evaluate the land suitability of some southern Iraqi governorates ( Basrah , Thi – Qar , Missan , Al – Muthanna and Al – Qadessia ) for cultivatation of Jatropha curcas L , by evaluating some characteristics such as the site of regions according to latitude lines , annual mean of rain , annual mean of temperature and the soil texture . The results showed that there are three classes of land ( S2 , S3 , N1 ) depending on irrigation to provide the crop by water requirements , and when the rain is depended , two land classes are distinguished ( S3 and N1 ) . So the indices values of S3 and N1 classes in case of depending rain were less than their values when the irrigation is depended to supply the water requirements , therefore and when the desire to cultivate the jatropha is present , the irrigation must be used . The result showed too that the suitable land for jatropha are the west highland of Thi – Qar , west low land of Basrah , the sandy and desert soils of Al – Muthanna and the sandy dunes soil of Al – Qadessia governorates , the indices values for these land were 50 , 44 , 44 , 43 . There are not large difference among these classes but the west highland of Thi – Qar Governorate is regarded the best land class for jatropha . | ||
