Abstract | ||
Idols for the Arabs before the holy prophetic message had an effect on their religious beliefs and daily life. Because the subject is important, this research attempts to study the book of al-Asnam "Idols" by Ibn al-Kalbi being the historian to whom all the historians and researchers resort when they talk about the social and religious aspects of the Arabs; in addition to the fact that the book of al-Asnam is considered one of the most famous resources that clarifies idolatry and its rituals for the Arabs in the Arabian Peninsula and sometimes outside it particularly in Yemen, al-Sham, and Iraq. The contents of the study are taken from the book of al-Asnam; the items of the study are divided according to their arrangement in the book. Objectivity is considered in the arrangement of the idols so the idols of Asaf and Naala are found in the legendry narrative and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is mentioned in an Israeli narrative to have presented al-Uzza a ewe. Moreover, the study includes the procedure of Ibn al-Kalbi in his book which depends on the oral narrative, the Holy Quran, and the poets. The study further illustrates the repetition in his procedure and the contradiction in his narratives. | ||
