Abstract | ||
The title is the first step of the text that the reader could not ignore in any written text because it connects deeply with the text. The holy Qur’an is the first text in Arabic follows entitling system had entitled each sura with a special title to distinguish it from the other Qur`anicsuras in the copies of the holy Qur`an or in the books of interpretation. There are some non-divinely. There are some non-divinely titles that the followers had used to entitle the suras due to their interest in the Holy Qur`an since the early time. According to the modern theory of entitling, the title has a numerous functions four of which had been defined by JerarJineet:- assignment function, descriptive function, suggestive function, and appealing function. The finding of these functions depends on how to read the sura. The assignment function occupies the first position where it dominates the titles of the Meccainsuras, especially in the suras that describe terrible events of doomsday, followed by the descriptive function, which describes the sura`s subject, then the suggestive function, which suggests the text`s subject by the sounds` tune. The appealing function occupies the fourth position, it arouse many questions for the reader about the reason of this title, so the reader would attempt to find answers within the text. Some title may perform more than one function. | ||
