Removal of dissolved hydrocarbon BTEX from dilute aqueous solution on deferent modified packing materials such as silica, alumina, cellulose, activated carbon&sand and red sand are investigated. This research was performed using glass columns(30cmx5cm ID) were selected for laboratory test and were packed with silica, alumina, cellulose ,red sand , sand and activated carbon which modified with 10%0.1 N HCI at flow rate 5ml/min until the pH affluent in and out is the same . The BTEX solution (5ppm in Distill water) was introduced into these columns at flow rate 1ml /min .influent and effluent of BTEX samples were measured by GC. Modified red sand proved to be efficient for removing dissolved hydrocarbon content up to 98%. The adsorption behaviour 0f BTEX from aqueous solution onto modified red sand with chloride at pH 4were studied. The shape of the adsorption isotherms indicated an VI-type isotherm according to the langmuir classification .The experimental adsorption data showed good correlation with the langmuir models. The results indicate that the adsorption properties of BTX depend on the acidity of modified surface and the number of methyl groups. | ||
