Abstract background: we examined the prevalence of uterine fibroid and menstrual cycle characteristics in a population of non-care-seeking women. Methods: this is a cross- sectional study involves 175 women who were not lactating or using contraception and their age between 20-40. After taking history transvaginal ultrasound done to these female. We examined the association between menstrual cycle characteristic and the presence of uterine fibroid. Results & discussion: uterine leiomyomata were detected in 31 women (17.71%). The presence of uterine leiomypma was not significantly related to amount of blood loss with menstrual cycle, regularity of the cycle, dysmenorrheo or deep pelvic pain. Conclusion: in this population of non-care seeking women, menstrual cycle abnormalities are not related to the presence of uterine leiomyoma.
