Abstract | ||
The aim of this study was to evaleuate the analgesic effects of xylazine,dipyrone and tramadol in chicks to detect the best dose (as onset and duration) for analgesia in this model, also to evaluate the analgesic effects at subanalgesic doses (sedative doses) for those drugs as combinations. The dose of xylazine alone at 2mg/kg b.w I.M, dipyrone alone at 10mg/kg b.w I.M and tramadol alone at 1mg/kg b.w I.P were the best doses for relief pain induced by electrical stimuli. There was an increase in the voltage change for pain (15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 min.) in comparison with the control and other doses for each drug . injection of xylazine at 0.5 mg/kg b.w I.M and dipyrone at 2.25 mg/kg b.w I.M or xylazine at 0.5mg/kg b.w I.M and tramadol at 0.24 mg/kg b.w I.P (as combinations) induced an excellent analgesia in 100% of the animals in comparison with other groups for each drug alone (at the same subanalgesic doses), without any overt side effects. The data suggest that the combination of xylazine and tramadol or xylazine and dipyrone at low doses(subanalgesic doses) were an ideal mixture for good and safe analgesia in chicks | ||
