| This research semantically studies the structure of verb phrases in verses that refer to Jihad (Holy War) and fighting in the Blessed Revelation. The research depends on the roots of verbs [jahad (fight), katala (kill), shahada(die as a martyr), nafala (take booty), and ghanima(gain booty)] in determining the purpose from the Koranic address. The research combines the descriptive and analytic approaches in demonstrating them through showing the surface structure of the phrases, and analyzing the phrases and highlighting inherent relationships between them and their adjacent phrases in addition to tracing coherence relationships between those phrases. The topic is introduced by shedding light on the structure of verb phrases in a few lines. Then the subject is dealt with in two sections the first of which studies independent verb phrases which are divided into assertive and non-assertive phrases whereas the second is concerned with dependent phrases. Afterwards, there comes the conclusion where the most important findings the study reached are displayed and which is furnished with a table which illustrates the verses that include verb phrases relevant to the research topic. | ||
