| In this investigation we were interested in carrying out a comparative study of microwave assisted and conventional synthesis of bisphenols and mesogenic azomethine diols containing azomethine groups. Modified domestic microwave with ethanol solvent as a reaction mediator and conventional heating (oil bath) were used in this study. The condensation reaction of primary amines with active carbonyls was depended in this study. It is well known that azomethine group (Ar-CH=N-Ar), which is a rigid structure, is frequently used as the mesogenic unit for liquid crystals. The structures of all synthesized compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis (CHN). All the reactions under microwave irradiation were carried out in short time with high yield of products, whereas similar reactions under conventional heating (oil bath) at refluxed temperature gave fewer yields with comparatively longer time. | ||
