Abstract | ||
Nineteen species of calcareous nannofossils were identified from the contact between Kometan and Shiranish formations that is exposed in Chaqchaq valley, northwest of Sulaimaniyah city, NE Iraq. The recorded calcareous nannofossils' assemblages permit recognition of two biozones: 1- Aspidolithus parcus – Calculites ovalis Interval Biozone (CC 18 – CC 19) 2- Ceratolithoides aculeus Interval Biozone (CC 20) Based on nannofossils biozonation, the contact between Kometan and Shiranish formations is considered to be conformable. In the studied area, it was found that the age of the Shiranish Formation extends to Early Campanian. | ||
