Abstract | ||
The study aimed to investigate the intestinal parasites in feces of animals of Al- Zoo. One hundred and ninety six fecal samples were collected from 17 species of captive animals aged between <1->1 year during October 2010- March 2011. For the first time in Iraq the oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. were identified in feces of Lama, tigers and hyena also Eimeria spp. in one bear, tigers and lions, as well as the eggs of Parascaris equroum were detected in daljs, hyena, tigers and pony. Whereas Nematodirus spp. were identified in feces of gazelle and goats. The results revealed that morbidity rates of Cryptospordium spp. in herbivorous attained 25.0%, carnivorous 20.0% and Eimeria spp. 10.2% in herbivorous and in carnivorous 10.0%, Parascaris equroum which found in dalj and pony were 13.6%, 4.5% respectively, in hyena and tiger were 7.7%, 15.3% respectively. The morbidity rate of Nematodirus spp. which found only in herbivorous was 6.1%. It was concluded that the parasitic infection is prevalent among animals of AL-Zawra Zoo which considers dangerous source to the health of these animals and their kids, also its direct and indirect effect on life of visitors and workers of the zoo. | ||
