Abstract Four models compound and six polymers of conjucated β- diketone derived from curcumin. Compoundswere synthesized from the reaction of curcumin with aliphaticacid chloride(Butyryl chloride, Octnyl chloride) and aromatic acid chloride (Benzoyl chloride, Anisoyl chloride).Six polymers have been prepared from curcuminmesogenand diacid chloride (n= 3,4,5,7,8,10).The structure of resulting compounds were identified by IR and elemental analysis . Phase transition behaviors were observed bydifferential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and polarizing hotstage microscope.Microscopic observations and DSC measurments confirm that aromatic models of Curcumin givesliquid crystalline properties which is nematic phase at 170 while allThe polymers ofcurcumin prepared will decompose at high temperatures so no phase transition could be noticed. | ||
