Abstract | ||
This study involved an investigation about the biological and chemical activity of local plant seed extracts on germination of stored barley seeds . It also touchas upon the extracts of these extracts on the growth and germination of barlay seed born fungi Rhizopus stolinifer, Aspergillus niger,Trichoderma harzianum and Penicillum aurantiogriseum. Species of plants were selected according tothe review of literature and the local uses . These plants are , Cucurbita pepoCucurbita maxima, Solanummelogena, Capsicum annuum and Daucus carota.In the seeds treatments, five concentrations of extracts were tested ( .0,2.5,5.07.5 , 10.0) % and 500ppm from Benomyl and Mancozeb ( fungicides) . TheTreatments of acetone , extracts and Benomyl , Mancozeb treatment raisedgermination rates of barlay seeds to high levels and they inhibited the growth of fungi on solid and liquid culture media.The primary tested of chemical content ofactive extracts against the growth of fungi showed that the extracts of Cucurbitamaxima contained alkaloids , saponins , glycosides but no contained tannin compounds . The extracts ofCucurbita pepo also contained the same compoundsin plant above . The extracts of Capsicum annuum only contained alkaloids butthe extracts of Daucus carota contained alkaloids , tannins , saponins, glycosides and the extracts of Solanum melogena contained alkaloids , saponins , glycosidesbut no contained tannins | ||
