This study was carried out at laboratories of agriculture and marshes college , university of Thi-Qar , during 2010 – 2011 to investigate the influence of gibberellic acid concentrations and storage periods on storability and viability of sunflower seeds . Factorial experiment in CRD was used with four replications in two factors . Gibberellic acid 300 mg. L-1 gave the higher averages of germination percentages in cold test , first count test , standard germination test , radical length , plumule length , seedling vigour index and seedling dry weight ( 73.61% , 55.20%, 77.11% , 10.32cm , 8.90cm , 1506.39 and 196.66 mg ) , respectively. The higher averages of germination percentages in cold test , first count test , standard germination test , radical length , plumule length , seedling vigour index and seedling dry weight ( 82.95% , 69.01% , 85.91% , 11.22 cm , 8.97 cm , 1739.56 and 202.13 mg ) , respectively , were recorded in the first month of sunflower seeds storage . Treating seeds with gibberellic acid 300 mg. L-1 during the first month of storage gave the higher averages of germination percentages in cold test , first count test , standard germination test , radical length , plumule length , seedling vigour index and seedling dry weight ( 87.79% , 73.20% , 91.23% , 12.41 cm , 10.62 cm , 2101.03 and 216.43 mg ) , respectively . It can be concluded that gibberellic acid increased the storability of seeds with the extension of storage period compared with unsoaked seeds | ||
