Abstract The first point that attracts our attention in Modernism, and what followed it, criticize is that they have no definite definition because the definitions that are given for Modernism by the western thinkers and philosophers indicted that there was no agreement upon the concept of modernism in the West itself .Here we are care for modernism not as a literary direction, rather as a conceptual theory that does not interested in the creative movement alone rather it called for revolt against all the political, social and economic aspects . If we want to study the roots of modernism in the West, we have to know that all the intellectual, philosophical, social and literary doctrines that related to the Greek paganism which led to the modernism ambiguity and its characteristics of suspicion and un settlement, the characteristics that all the modernism doctrines had :-symbolism, impressionism, expressionism surrealism , ………The research also dealt with the roots of the modernism that reached our Islamic world throughout the missions and delegations that had returned from Europe or by the military or Christian movements. | ||
