330 tlne needle aspi€tion qtologies (FNA) ofbreast lesions perfomed during a ten year period , from 1992 to 2002 , atthe Pathology Depafimert and Surgical Teaching Hospital were studied . The c)'tological diagnosis were compared with the results ofthe histological examination ofthe same lesions and statistically evauated . Most ofcytologically false negative (22%) and inadquate cases (6%) were found in clinical stage VI, while most ofsuspicious cases were found in clioical stage I (50%) . The sensitivity ofthe present study was 930% . while specificity was 100% . The overall accuacy rate was 70% in the whole study . Positive predictive value for carcinomas was 100% , negative predictive value for absence of carcinima was 860/o and efficiency ofthe test was 957o . The agreem€Dt between c)'toiogical and histological typing ofmalignant tumors was 95% in infiltrating , 35oZ in medullary carcinoma and 100% in c]'tosarcoma phyllodes . While in beingn lesions , it was 1000% in granulomatous mastitis 86% in fibrocystic disease , 900% in b.east abscess and 95% in fibrodenoma.
