Abstract | ||
A sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of iodide and iodine is described. The method involves the oxidation of iodide and Iodine to ICl2– in the presence of iodate and chloride in acidic medium. The formed ICl 2–bleaches the dye methyl orange. The decrease in the intensity of the colour as a result of reaction the ICl2– with methyl orange is measured at 507 nm . The linear relationship is produced in the concentration range 0.1–8µg/ml of iodide in an overall volume of 10 ml. The molar absorptivity of the colour system was 1.972 × 104 l mol-1 cm-1 with a correlation coefficient of _0.998 .The standard deviation was 2.04 (n=10) at 3.5 µg of iodide. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determination of iodide in salt samples and iodine in pharmaceutical preparations. | ||
