Abstract | ||
This study carried out on 50 Awassi ewes aged 2 - 6 years old in private sheep farm in Kirkuk province – IRAQ, during the period Nov. 1st 2015 till Jan. 30 2016, to investigate the effect of some non – genetic factors (ewe’s age, lambs sex and type of birth) on daily, monthly and total milk yield, milk composition during suckling period (90 days). Daily milk yield (DMY) measured biweekly using hand milking method (morning milking), monthly milk yield (MMY) calculated by summing the two 15 days milk yields, the same method used to calculate total milk yield (TMY). Milk samples were taken after each milking to measure milk composition percentages (Fat, Protein and S.N.F). Ewes age had significant effect (P≤0.05) in DMY and TMY with a trend to increase DMY and TMY in 2nd and 3rd months of lactation with increase ewe ages from 3 years till 6 years. Milk fat % was significantly (P≤0.05) affected by ewes age where it increased in 2nd, 3rd months of lactation and entire 3 months period with ewe age increase from 2 years to 3 and above. Protein % in 1st and 2nd months increased significantly (P≤0.05) in 4 years old ewes compared to 2 years old, S.N.F % showed the above pattern with significant increase in 3 and 4 years old ewes compared to 2 years old during 1st ,3rd and entire study period. Lambs sex and birth type had non-significant effect in DMY, TMY and milk composition percentage during the trial period. | ||
