Abstract | ||
This study was conducted to investigate chicken meat consumption levels and consumption behaviours of households in Mosul province, Iraq. For this purpose, face-to-face surveys were conducted with 96 homes in Mosul in July-August 2018, and similar studies were used in the analysis of the data obtained. The number of sample households was determined according to the "Non-Clustered Single Stage Simple Random Probability Sampling Based on Main Population Ratios" method. According to the results of the research; The average number of individuals was 4.74. It has been determined that 44.18% of the population is university graduates. The average monthly income of the families was 1192395.83 dinars, the total expenditure was 591406.25 dinar, and the food expenditure was 272933.98 dinars. Per family in examined families average monthly consumption of chicken meat was 8.45 kg and 1.78 kg per person. It was determined that chicken meat consumption level varies in different income groups, and chicken meat consumption levels increased depending on the income level of consumers. Most of the families preferred to use chicken meat. When the frequency of chicken meat consumption of the families was examined, it was observed that 52.08% of the consumers consumed 2-3 times a week, 26.04 % once a week, 14.58% once every 15 days and 7.29 % once a month. On average, 62.50% of consumers buy chicken meat as whole chicken, while 37.50% report that they buy it in pieces. The most preferred part of chicken meat is breast meat with 59.38%, followed by thing thigh meat with 33.33% and wing meat with7.29%.
