Abstract | ||
This research aims at using the geographical information system (GIS) to detect the morphometric and geometric characteristics that are considered one of the new trends to study rivers valleys and identify the extent of their development in addition to identifying the hydromorphometric characteristics represented by area, morphology and the terrain features as well as the water network characteristics in order to build a geographical database for the river valley because the morphometric characteristics provide useful indicators for the river valley hydrological characteristics which help evaluate the capabilities of the surface water and managing them easily due to the strong relation between the morphometric and hydrological characteristics. This research dealt with analyzing the geometric and morphometric characteristics of the water discharge network of AlAjeej valley, which is located in the noth western part of Iraq in Nineveh governorate, represented by the engineering, topographic and morphological characteristics of the discharge valley by using (Arc Gis 10.5) program to obtain elaborate results and then producing maps in addition to taking the various morphometric dimensions, building some spatial relations amongst all the valley characteristics. Moreover, the natural characteristics which affect the valley especially the rocky nature, climate and topographical features were also investigated.
