Abstract The natural radioactivity in (granite) were determined by using gamma ray spectrometer NaI (Tl) detector and MCA 1024. The data analyses were performed to determine 226Ra, 232Th and 40K activity concentrations. Natural radioactivity levels of 5 samples of natural building materials used in country. The samples were collected from local market. The values for Raeq for all samples were found to be much higher than the threshold value of 370 Bq/ kg. The internal and external hazard indices are well above the recommended limit of 1. The absorbed dose rate is higher than the international recommended values of 60nGy/h for all test samples. Annual Gonadal Equivalent Dose (AGED) values are above the permissible threshold of 300 mSv/y for the samples. Activity Concentration Index are above the world permissible limits for all samples due to high activity of the radionuclides.
