The Role of Knowledge Management Strategies in Reaching the Characteristics of a Learning Organization A field study at a number of Iraqi University colleges Today's organizations need to be developed for achieving their excellence, which requires the maintenance of continuous learning and application of experience gained on their daily works. In the knowledge era, organizations must reconsider their strategies, processes and plans in order to meet the challenges of rapid change in external environment by adopting modem management concepts such as knowledge strategies and learning organization. The research examines the extent to which knowledge management strategies contribute to characteristics of a learning organization through addressing the relationship between personalization and coding strategies and the five characteristics of a learning organization (organizational synthesis, tasks, management systems, strategy formulation, and organizational culture). By reviewing theory and previous studies related to the variables and the adoption of a questionnaire as a means of collecting data using (Hanson, 1990) measure of knowledge management strategies and (Daft, 2001) measure for the characteristics of a learning organization and applied to a sample of (36) observations (Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, Director) in six faculties belonging to Iraqi University, the research reached to many important conclusions the most important one is the positive significant relationships between variables which prove the hypothesis of this research. In addition, the university benefit from its expertise and competencies in enforcing knowledge management strategies through training employees on the use of modem technologies for converting tacit knowledge to the explicit one in a way that contributes to the continuous development of the university. The most important recommendations emphasize general and university organizations for intellectual capital investment mechanisms, processes and knowledge-seeking strategies for attracting skilled people to handle updates to get a high level knowledge and intellectual outputs.
