Abstract | ||
The study of speech acts has received a great deal of attention by linguists, philosophers, and researchers. Among these speech acts is the praise speech act.Praise is , in fact , part of the positive politeness strategies which people always use to give support and confidence to each other. Praise represents a social strategy in that the speaker uses in his/her attempts to create rapport and relationship with the listener.For the sake of presenting and discussing the act of praising whether explicit or implicit, this research is carried out to shed light on the linguistic devices of praise in selected verses of the Holy Quran focusing on three levels of concern : Pragmatics ,semantics and syntax. After the analysis,the research finds out that praise is expressed both explicitly and implicitly ,in particular by the use of adjectives. | ||
