| Abstract | ||
| The Iraqi fire insurance portfolio suffers from a lack of promotion and marketing its policies through the lack of insurance awareness about its activities , and the difficulties affect underwriting of the local insurance companies that still rely on traditional methods and promotes for limited cover policies which do not meet the actual requirements of the proposals to obtain good protection, despite they are optional and the Iraqi legislature does not imposed on employers of public and private institutions to get any insurance covers, Therefore, the majority of these institutions is not insured against fire risk despite the large number of accidents . The insurance companies are seeking to expand its customer base by following sound scientific principles in underwriting the risks which can confirm getting comparative advantages in the financial markets . This research is an attempt to study the reality of fire insurance underwriting in the ( National and the General Iraqi Insurance Companies ) during a preview of the premiums and compensations indicators in order to reach positive results and to make an acceptable proposals to follow sound underwriting policies aims to promote and increase the sale of fire insurance policies. | ||
