The present study designed to show the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of Carthamus tinctorius extract against P. aeruginosa. The present study was divided to two parts, the first part (invitro) including sensitivity test of P. mirabilis against extract and some antibiotics. Where, the results of inhibition efficacy of extract toward P. aeruginosa showed very high inhibition efficacy of extract, which reached to 40 mm, while, gentamycin showed inhibition zone reached to11mm. Neomycin showed inhibition zone reached to5mm. Tetracycline and Novobiocin showed without any inhibition zone. In the second part (in vivo) used 20 albino male rats that divide randomly to five groups (each group consist 4 rats), first group; control group administrated only normal diet and water, second group; injected subcutaneous with (108 CFU/ml), third group; injected subcutaneous with (108 CFU/ ml) and treated with gentamycin, group injected subcutaneous with (108 CFU/ ml) and treated with neomycin, group injected subcutaneous with (108 CFU/ ml) and treated with safflower extract. The MDA, GSH and catalase levels showed high significant changes (P < 0.01) in groups; group injected with bacteria only; group injected with bacteria and treated with gentamicin and group injected with bacteria and treated with neomycin compare with control group. While, in group injected with bacteria and treated with safflower extract, MDA, GSH and catalase levels still normal. It was concluded from this study that the Carthamus tinctorius safflower extract has been antimicrobial and antioxidant activity against P. aeruginosa. | ||
