A study was conducted during 2013 – 2014 season at lath house of agriculture , University of Basra to study the effect of potassium phosphate and proline on two cultivars of Narcissus daffodil. Nine treatments came from two concentration of of potassium phosphate ( 100 and 200 mg/L ) and two proline concentration ( 25 and 50 mg/L ) besides the control treatment for two cultivars (magnet and Sempre Avanti ) . Randomized complete block design were used in three replications for each treatment in factorial experiment . means were compared by LSD at 5% probability . Results showed magnet cultivar was superior in vegetative growth criteria compared to Sempre Avanti.Potassium phosphate at 200 mg/ L gave the best vegetative growth characteristics compared to control treatment. Magnet cultivar treated by proline at 50 mg per liter significantly increased plant height to 44.1cm , whereas , number of leaves was higher under the treatment of proline ( 25 mg/L) for CV. Sempre Avanti which was 9.33.Treatment of cv. Sempre Avanti by potassium phosphate ( 100 mg/L) produced significant increase in fresh weight which was 27.50 gm. Magnet cv. had the best flowering characteristics such as ; decrease the period to reach flowering , length and diameter of petiole . flower diameter of Sempre cv was higher than that of Magnet cv . Proline at 25mg/L reduced period to reach flowering ( 80.33 days ) and flower diameter ( 78.5 mm ), the best lengh and diameter of petiole came from the treatment by proline at 50 mg/L .The interaction between Magnet cv and potassium phosphate ( 100 mg/L ) was significantin in flowering time and diameter of petiole ( 70.67 days , 8.39 mm ) rspectiveley . petiole length was higher under the interaction of proline ( 50 mg/L ) and Magnet cv, wheras , flower diameter was higher under the interaction between proline ( 50 mg/L ) and Magnet cv, wheras ,flower diameter was higher under the interaction between proline ( 50 mg/L ) for Sempre Avanti cv which was 75.14 mm . Sempre Avanti cv had the highest bulb number and bulb weight. The best characteristics of bulb came from the treatment by potassium phosphate at 200 mg/L. Proline at 50 mg/L caused the highest bulb weight ( 67.33 gm ) for Sempre Avanti cv, wheras ,potassium phosphate ( 100 mg per liter ) gave highest number of bulbs ( 5.00 )for Sempre Avanti cv. No significant differences were noticed between the two cultivars in chemical characteristics. Proline (50 mg/L ) gave the highest carbohydrate content of leaves . The interaction between proline (50 mg/L) and Sempre Avanti was signticant in carbohydrate and proline content which was 15. 29 mg/100 gm and 1.82 mg /100 gm , respectively . | ||
