Abstract | ||
This paper entitled (Ali Hedla Movement in Karbala and the Attitude of the Ottoman Government towards it ) tacked an important side of the history of the Ottoman state in the last quarter of the nine- tenth century as there was great echo for this movement in Karbala especially after the injustice and oppression, the infringement of the ottoman power against them, such as raising the taxes imposed on them and the compulsory recruitment ( order soldiers ) imposed on them because of the great number of wars the ottoman state had with the European countries . Unlike other movements , this movement had greater echo as its news reached Istanbul and the ottoman Sultan , ( Abdul- Hameed AlThany ( 1876- 1909) informed of it . Accordingly, he issued an order of sending an army to Karbala city ; he destroyed the city and killed all the people in it He gave orders to do this mission to Aakif Basha, Baghdad governor and to the marshal Husain Fawzy Basha . As a result , the owner of Al- Mustawfy café, Ali Hedla revolted against the ottoman policy in 1877, which recruited the youths in long- term battles with caesarean Russian and other state which ended with the defeat of the ottoman army and resulted in signing San Stefano treaty. In spite of exterminating the movement at its start but it contributed greatly , in one way or another, to the establishment and emergence of new movement and emergence of new successive and containing revolution against the ottoman power at that time such as Ali Sayyad Mahdy Al- Ushaqir movement | ||
