Abstract | ||
A novel printed heptagonal patch antenna is proposed in this paper to be used in the ultra wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed antenna consists of a heptagonal patch with appropriate dimensions on one side of a dielectric substrate, and a partial ground plane on the adverse side of the substrate. In order to cover the whole bandwidth allocated for UWB applications, many techniques are used in this paper to optimize the design of proposed antenna such as; adjusting the gap between the heptagonal patch and the ground plane, the feed position of the heptagonal patch, and the width and length of the ground plane under the heptagonal patch. The parameters of the proposed antenna such as the radiation pattern, gain, and impedance bandwidth are investigated and found be acceptable over the entire operational bandwidth. The proposed antenna also shows a good time domain characteristics and has a linear phase over this band giving less distortion of the received signal. The program which is used in the design of the proposed antenna is High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). Index Terms: Heptagonal antenna, patch antenna, printed antenna (circuit) and UWB antenna. | ||
